Throughout the pandemic, school sports have changed drastically, or were cancelled altogether. The swim team is no exception. As of a few weeks ago, the swim team has started up once again. JV, Varsity, and the diving team are all currently meeting at Las Posas pool for practice. “Practices and events started a few weeks ago, and we are training strong!” Collin Schneider shares.

Due to the pandemic, regulations for swim meets are being strictly enforced. Before you show up to practice, you must be screened with Lumasite and in the complex, masks have to be worn at all times. While in the pool, swimmers are socially distanced.

When asked about the regulations, Schneider explained, “Adjusting to these challenging times has been difficult, but our team has persevered and helped this season run as smoothly as possible.” Like other groups during covid a lot of things have changed. When training, JV and Varsity now have separate practice times. They’re meets have changed in the way that they are faster and less people attend. During events spectators are no longer allowed because of social distancing.

When questioned about upcoming practices Schneider mentioned, “Senior Night is coming up fast, and is a special event where we can send our seniors off with a bang. This takes place during our annual dual meet with our rival school Mission Hills, and is not something to miss! If you know any swimmers, or would like to be able to watch us race, we will be trying to live stream our meets in the future, so stay tuned for updates on that.”

The swim team encourages anyone that’s interested in joining to try out next year stating “it’s never too late to start.”
