A boy who went from learning guitar at a young age from YouTube tutorials, and enduring a breakup in middle school that inspired songwriting. To a boy who just won his third award for “Regional Mexican Album of the Year” and performing with Becky G a very well-known Mexican-American Artist. This boy’s name is Ivan Cornejo he is a 19-year-old born in Riverside California his first album that came out was “Alma Vacía” and his first song to go viral was “Está Dañada” which went viral in September 2021 on TikTok. It reached number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, it was also the second regional Mexican song to chart on the Hot 100, he was even included in Billboard magazine “Artist on the Rise” in October 2021. He also has 6.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify.  He then later released “Dañado”, his second album on June 2, 2022. His second album is what got him his third award and he won the same award in 2022. In June 2023, is when he announced his first tour called the “Terapia Tour”. 

  When I was doing assignments in class, homework, going on car trips far away, doing homework at home, staying up late at night to finish last-minute assignments, but last but not least also helping me get through the hard times that I have been through. When he announced his tour I was excited because during those months of listening to him, I was excited and hoping to hear him live. 

Ivan announced his tour with a video that he posted on YouTube and his Instagram. When Ivan had released his tour and the dates, fans went crazy and got excited that they were finally going to be seeing him live. When tickets were released Ivan hoped that they would sell out in a month but just in three days 90% of his tickets had been sold out, along with his other tour dates that sold out fans were able to get a presale code, that allowed them to buy tickets early that might have been one of the many reasons. His setlist for the concert included some songs like “Está Dañada”, “Esta Dañada”, “La Curiosidad”, and “J.” These are only a few songs that are on his setlist; he has different songs from different albums. His first show for his tour was in Silver Spring Maryland on the 30th of August, for many people this was their first show. Ivan had made a website where his fans could share their memories from the tour and one of them was for his first show which says “First concert I’ve been to and I’m glad it was yours Ivan❤️‍🩹Wish I could go back to that day!!!”.

Many are grateful for the experience of the concert. Many fans have said they have felt extremely connected to his songs and that it has helped them with many from breakups themselves to family problems and used his music to escape. Fans have said that they have cried to his songs so many times because they have felt so connected with them and were glad they finally got to cry to them live and with everyone else who was feeling that same way. Ivan’s songs had meaning behind them that many people had connected with from young people to old people, one of those songs was “Ya Te Perdí from his Dañado Deluxe album” was for people who had lost someone not just from a relationship but people who have had lost someone in the families or friends. Many people experienced so much from this tour with many emotions. When he did his Seattle show in October, he was already halfway through his tour, fans from his website who posted their memories said “I went to both shows in Seattle. I hope you keep getting big Ivan! You deserve big shows and this is just the start! By far one of my fav concerts I’ve been to! So happy I went to both shows” Another fan that goes by the name Mari says “I spent the best night ever. I screamed than any concert. Ivan hones helped me through so much and I feel so grateful I could see him live in seat first night”.

  After reading all the memories people have posted on his website from all the shows, it has shown me clearly that Ivan’s songs will always have a special place in many places’ hearts and deserve more than what he has. In the beginning, I didn’t believe them because when I had first started listening to his music I didn’t get it or I would get bored of it but after listening, and listening to his music I understood what they meant. To me, I can’t pick which songs I love because they all are really good and I can’t just pick each song that holds something dear to me. 

 I didn’t think I would be saying they hold a deep meaning to me but they do because I am not someone who likes to change my music taste or change my playlists or genre but I gave it a chance because I wanted something new but to also connect to music to be ready when I needed to write this story. About 54.7% do not know who he is, well 45.3% know who he is. 52.8% do not listen to him, well 47.2% do listen to him. To me, I feel like he deserves more credit and recognition. I have heard new artists like Peso Pluma or Bad Bunny, but there was something about Ivan Cornejo’s songs that were just different even though I have heard songs that had meaning behind them I felt like there was something different. His tour seems to be something I will likely enjoy because many people have given positive reviews. When I heard he was going to tour I got somewhat excited because I heard he was good and that they would be good. I was happy that he was doing one here in San Diego because not many artists do shows in San Diego. I can say his music is something you should listen to too.

 I think Ivan Cornejo is a good artist because his songs are relaxing and something I like to sing along. His songs are something I have started adding to my playlists when I need some calming music. I like how he does different types of genres with his music and always adds something different when making his music. I also really like to watch his music videos a bit more than just the audio because they seem more interesting.
